New York Life Insurance Company has been a time-tested financial strength since the mid-1800's.  It was originally founded as the Nautilus Insurance Company and was renamed in 1849 to the more commonly known New York Life Insurance Company.  The New York Life building, which still houses the company, was completed in 1928.  The pyramidal gilded roof is one of the landmark features of the New York City skyline.
