Aetna is one of the top insurance companies in the health care industry. It provides a wide range of benefits to companies around the country. Their mission to help people achieve health and financial security through health care products began with the foundation of the company. Life insurance was the direction that the company first went. In 1850 the company issued its first life insurance policy. In just a few years Aetna had expanded to mortgage loans (although this particular avenue of investment ended in the mid 1900's). By the end of the 20th Century, Aetna had moved its attention squarely to health care and was the largest provider of health care benefits in the United States. Long term care is something that Aetna has also been looking towards. As early as 1987 it sold the health insurance industry's FIRST employer group long term care plan. The concern that Aetna holds for its customers current and future health is one of the reasons that company has been able to grow and expand to such amazing degrees. In recent years the company has again changed its investment practices. Aetna no longer offers individual coverage but instead focuses on the larger picture of group coverage.
